2017 April ASPIRE Mental Training

"Mental Toughness"

ASPIRE Mental Training Seminar w/ Dr. Lorne Sawula

ASPIRE is pleased to introduce Mental Training to their line-up for volleyball athletes ages U13-U18.  Mental Fitness is often overlooked in sport. But in volleyball, many coaches look towards several key physical attributes (size of athlete, ability to jump, fitness, etc.) along with the most important attribute an athlete can have - mental toughness. With one mistake, momentum can be thrown from one team to the other and mental toughness is the key to minimizing these errors and recovering towards the path of success.

The main goal of these sessions is to introduce athletes to the power of mental toughness on and off the court, at school, at home and in their everyday lives.

Seminars will introduce but not be exclusive to the following topics:
  • Confidence/Dealing with Emotion on the Court
    • Belief in Yourself and your Teammates
    • Learning to deal with emotions that are present on the court
    • Feeding the Confident Player Within.
    • Relaxation and Arousal Control - Learning When to React and When to Breathe
  • Focus on the Task at Hand and Avoiding Distractions
    • "Letting Go of Mistakes"
    • Concentration during Game Settings / Practices
  • Recovery Tactics/Learning Your Triggers
    • Explore Triggers and How to Recover Quickly and Effectively.
